Copper Proper, the bricks & mortar store, is located in the historic mining town of Copperopolis, California, in the New Town Square. Copperopolis sits conveniently along Highway 4 in the central Sierra Nevada foothills of Calaveras County, 100-miles or so east of San Francisco. Mark Twain wrote his famous story "The jumping frog of Calaveras County" here, and both Black Bart and Juaquin Murrieta were known to have passed through the area in the 1800’s. Along with gold, Calaveras County also became a major supplier of copper to the U.S. government during and after the Civil War. Our name celebrates that history.
